Behind Wild Sprouts

A little bit about me:
I took Early Childhood Education back in 2017, in my grad year of high school, with a dual credit program. After high school and my ECE certificate graduation, I moved to the big city to start my career. I have worked in a variety of childcare centers with many different philosophies and cultures. I have been drawn toward infant toddler development the most and I especially love working with 15-18 month olds. I currently work as an Early Childhood Educator in an Infant Toddler program out in the countryside.
In 2019 I decided to go back to school and learn more about my second passion; Plants! I graduated with my Horticulture Technician Certificate in 2020 and dipped my toes in the landscaping field for about 8 months before deciding I truly missed working with children. I made the choice to go back into childcare, bringing along my passion for nature, and have been loving it ever since. When I'm not working or blogging, I love gardening, bike rides, fishing, camping, and swimming. When I’m not out being active, I enjoy creating art with watercolors!
Why the name Wild Sprouts?
I believe children are like little seeds that we need to care for and help grow into the tall, sturdy trees they are meant to be. By teaching and assisting in children's development, we can help them grow (sprout) into strong and capable beings.
Wild, beautiful nature is available for children to be spontaneous and freely explore their outdoor environments. Without holding children back from their full potential, they have the opportunity to have their wild side blossom, discovering what they want to discover and where their passions lie.
Why am I passionate about bringing nature
back to the modern family?
I have always been drawn towards children's spirit for and curiosity towards life and our natural world. When taking my Early Childhood Education, I learned a lot about child development and the Reggio and Montessori curriculums. I have a passion for creating a healthy and happy childhood for children.
When I studied Horticulture, I learned about the healing qualities nature can bring to people’s lives. I then became passionate about bringing nature back to our everyday lives - my new mission. With technology on the rise and humans being more and more disconnected from our environment, I dream of the day families and children can be drawn back to nature and learn to care for it the way humans did hundreds of years ago.
My goal with this blog
I hope for this blog to be a resource for educators, parents and caretakers of children. When studying child development and the Reggio Emilia curriculum, I developed a strong passion to help children come back to nature. As you watch children play, you can notice they often are much more relaxed and in their zone when in the outdoors. When we educate ourselves about the benefits of natural resources and play, we can bring more ideas to the table to help our children gain the best foundation for their development.
